      Graduate Solutions Architect Interview

      Feb 6, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
Farnborough, Hampshire, South East England, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Red Hat (Farnborough, Hampshire, South East England, England) in Jan 2019

      Interview

30 minute telephone interview, followed up by sending in my written answer to three competency questions. Next stage was the assessment centre which took place in the office in Farnborough (not far from Reading / London). The day was very insightful. 3 assessed tasks during the day. First consisted of a group exercise to begin with where you have about 30 minutes to complete it. Next (for me anyway, you get given a schedule of your day), there was a presentation prep session where you are given 4 choices of topics to choose from for your assessed presentation later in the day. The other assesment was the instructions writing task which is self-explanatory really - you're writing instructions based on a specific topic. Lunch was provided. Recruiters were super helpful and try to make you as comfortable as possible. There were also 2 insight sessions during the day where you interact with people who work in your field'/have experience at Red Hat - my advice: RELISH this opportunity, ask questions about day to day activities, what things you'd be getting on with, development opportunties etc. so that you can really try to imagine yourself in such a role.

      Interview

Application followed by a 30-minute telephone interview where you're asked about your background and some competency-based questions. If you're successful in that you're invited to their Farnborough offices for an assessment centre. The day started with a group exercise where you worked in a team to follow a customer's requirements; it seemed to be assessing how well you can deal with changing requirements (Red Hat is a major proponent of Agile methodologies) as well as working with a team to gather requirements. The next session was an interview. You were asked competency-based questions relative to the role. Try and think about what you want to present to the interviewer, if you study a degree with a final project its likely they'll ask about that. The final two assessments were a presentation and an instructions-based task. The presentation was pretty difficult, they give you a few topics and around 30 minutes to prepare a 10-minute presentation. It could also be whatever you want but its probably beneficial to discuss technology at a technology company. The instructions-based task was working in pairs or threes to devise a set of instructions to a question. Failed but was given a breakdown of what went well and what could go better over the phone which is much appreciated.
