I applied online and received a phone screening from the store manager a week later. Kind and friendly, but wanted me to interview for a lower position. I decided to continue the interview process to get a feeling for that specific store environment.
If I had been a customer, I would've walked out. I was not greeted for over 15 minute and when I finally was able to get someones attention, I was told they were busy and I needed to wait. (there was a single customer in the store) 5 or more minutes and I was finally able to let someone know I was here for an interview.
I proceeded to meet with one of the managers who left me sitting in silence while she responded to several text messages. I have now been in the store over 30 minutes with not a single question asked so I'm picking up that they don't really value others time. When she finally got the ball rolling, she asked why I left my current position. Fair enough. I responded with "the company culture wasn't the best fit for me." She asked me to expand and I simply stated that "I found the company unprofessional." She then asked me, "Who was unprofessional? I used to work there so I know everyone.".. I wanted to walk out right there.
The next 30 minutes I was forced to engage in frivolous gossip while figuring out how to politely leave. After being berated on my choice to leave a company that I didn't enjoy working at for almost 2 years, I asked why she had left that same company. She responded that she had conflict with another manager... so a confirmation of my former employers toxic environment.
I asked her why she enjoyed working for RH and she said she enjoyed it for the most part but didn't get along with everyone she worked with and hated retail....
I attempted to end the interview on a good note saying "thank you for speaking with me, I would love to be considered for any position here at RH." I quickly walked out and after reaching my car I decided that there was no way I would work for that RH location.
