I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Qualcomm in Jan 2012
Interview
As a CS PhD student, I applied for a research-oriented position that is very relate to my PhD work. So, surprisingly the interview was easy. No needed to waste the interview time for stupid coding/algorithm questions (although there were a few such questions). Just well explained my research experience and vision.
There was one time phone screen interview. During the phone interview, I learned that their ongoing projects were highly related to my work. So, the interview was very smooth. I detailed my research work.
Onsite interview: An hour presentation. A PhD student should do well as one mostly did conference talks and dissertation proposal. There were several questions, but manged to defend them. After the this talk. there were seven 1:1 interview including lunch. There were some coding/algorithm questions, but I don't think that was critical. I answered well. The problems are typical coding questions found in careercup, and a bit than Google, Microsoft, etc. It looks like they wanted to see whether I really do coding. Some questions were highly related to my research topics. Some were not easy to talk, but nice discussion. Some questions for pure math and logical reasoning. Senior persons just detailed the potential of the company and the project, no pushing questions. Finally, I talked the VP and he said that he would give an offer.
