I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Qualcomm
Interview
half day onsite interview, basic ASIC and VLSI questions that will be asked by any hardware companies, must have solid digital design, circuit and vlsi background, know c++. Most questions are easy and basic, if you are not good with c++ class, definitely need to prepare for that, including virtual function. if you also know a little script language, will be helpful. But focus on the ASIC and VLSI basics.

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Qualcomm (San Diego, CA) in Sep 2011
Interview
One interview on campus led to a full summer internship. I don't really know what else to say besides know your data structures and be able to write some decent code. I have since been offered a full-time position which I am going to take because this seems like a good company with a very good position in the market right now.
