Unprofessional. Despite being told multiple times by phone and email that I would only be coming in for a "quick initial conversation" and that there would not be a trial that day ("just a quick chat"), when I arrived, I was made to do two separate trials that lasted a total of four hours, without warning, preparation, or adequate time booked out of my schedule. I was also dressed for a client meeting I had earlier that day, not for set safety, as they had specifically said twice that it was just a conversation. Additionally, one of the the tests was not for the role I applied for but they had me do it anyway as they want an "all-rounder"--which is a red flag to begin with.
When I arrived, a team was waiting for me so it is clear it's part of their practice to blindside candidates. During the trial, the manager and a group of his work friends (I assume; they were never introduced to me) were whispering to each other and, quite literally, rolling their eyes when I took time to get accustomed to their non-industry standard equipment.
I am not the only person they have done this to, I have spoken to two other photographers personally that have been through the exact same experience at Next. These demeaning interview practices will only hurt Next's reputation in this small industry.
