      Marketing (Graduate) Interview

      Aug 7, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Londres, Inglaterra
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Monica Vinader (Londres, Inglaterra) in Aug 2017

      Interview

Had an assessment day, followed by an analysis test (Excel), two interviews in person in London and a final Skype interview (may have been a 4th interview). The whole thing is drawn out and very time/money consuming if you live outside London. First the assessment day, which is only about an hour doing a little group task planning a bank layout. Then they give an Excel test to be completed in 2.5 hours. It was challenging and I believe I did pretty well in it as they seemed interested in my report (part of the test) and was offered another role (as the original graduate role went to someone with 5 years experience..). So I went to London again to sit two interviews that went into lots of detail about my experience and a few competency questions. Up till now, it went well. Then they decide that two interviews (one was with the COO even) wasn't enough and I had to sit a Skype interview as well with an Accounts Manager. This is where it became ridiculous. After going through all that, she asked questions like "What would someone say your weakness is?". Questions like they'd already asked in the first two interviews and you'd expect at the start to filter people out in an online application, not when already this far in. I answered them but apparently in not enough depth or along the STAR format (like it actually matters, anyone can make up stories). All in all, very irrelevant for a third interview as I thought it'd be a continuation of my first interviews such as my experience and skills I could offer, not rehearsed story lines about teamwork when they had just seen me work in a team on the assessment day (plus 8 years military experience) and saw that I could use Excel and analyse data far better than most graduates. It would have made no difference in my analytical skills or anything else with how I answered the questions she gave, completely illogical. The assessment day, Excel test, the first two interviews, my education and my experience(s) had much more relevancy to the job application than how well I could tell a story about a time when. If you are applying be warned you may be messed about.

We understand that we require a lot from candidates during our recruitment process. From our first communications with candidates, we are open about the stages involved in our recruitment process and it is entirely the candidate’s decision to engage with us and demonstrate their interest in our roles. We have developed our process to ensure that we are recruiting the right candidate for our business. For those travelling from outside of London, we offer to pay reasonable travel expenses incurred to attend assessment centres and interviews. We regret that you did not have a positive experience and wish you the best in your future endeavours.
