I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Jan 2009
Interview
I worked as a contractor at Microsoft in 1999 and was invited to interview for a full-time job by the hiring manager, who was on the team I was working for. A new project had been created and allocated headcount. Although I was told that they wouldn't have offered an interview if they weren't confident that I'd get hired, I still had to go through the full interview process and loop.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Years ago, brain teasers were more in fashion in Microsoft interviews (much less so now). I did get asked to explain how the internet worked to someone's grandmother (with a great deal of probing into technical details). One interviewer asked me to explain what a B-tree was, but it was pretty clear that they didn't know. Another interviewer asked me to come up with as many possible techniques for measuring the height of a building with a 12" ruler.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in May 2013
Interview
I had a phone interview with the hiring manager, we talked about basic project management role and we discussed what's the difference between program manager and project manager.
I got invited to an on-site with 5 interviewers. I first met with the Group Program Manager, and we started with a design question on electric car, and the problem to solve was how to we can get an electric car charge quickly so we can drive across the country without waiting.
Then I had two interviews with two PM leads, one of them focused on my pitching skill. For this one, I was asked to pitch as if I were talking to Ballmer. It didn't go well since I haven't thought of getting question like this before. Next I was asked to make a quick sales pitch for my product (a 2 mins pitch at, say a product fair). This was much better, and he had follow up questions (pretending to be a real audience).
The other lead asked a scenario question which I was totally expecting it. He described the scenario, and I work on getting the information from him. Get all info before making a suggestion to the problem.
The next interviewer focused on pure design question, I think the question was about designing a vending machine, but I couldn't remember the details. Certainly things to remember is to find out what problem we are trying to solve or what value we are trying to provide with the product/feature we are designing.
The last interviewer was the Director of PM, not so technical. Mostly focus on why a PM role fits me. Also asked me which interview was good, and which was bad, and of course, why. He did a short follow up on one of the question, but I couldn't recall what he asked.

Question 1
The elevator pitch was difficult to me since I wasn't expecting it.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Dublín, Dublín)
Interview
I applied online through careers.microsoft.com and within 2 weeks was contacted by a recruiter from the EOC (EMEA Operations Center) office. My first interview was with the hiring manager, then an interview with a potential peer and then two senior interviews with group directors in related business lines.
After I passed all the interviewers I was contacted by the recruiter saying that the feedback from all interviewers was extremely positive and that they wanted to hear my salary expectations ("not to waist my time", which was fun because I had already spent 3+ hours on interviews by that time). In the end there happened to be over 20% difference between what they offered and what I wanted, however, they didn't reject me. I then received an email asking for my references and I provided them. I know that Microsoft contacted my recommenders and received positive feedback. However, in the end they rejected me. I found this process quite unprofessional because they kept me on the hook till the last minute with no clear intentions.

Question 1
The questions were generally very easy, just standard ones about my previous experiences and the projects I used to manage. There were also a couple of behavioral questions but also nothing special.
