      Program Manager Interview

      Dec 9, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Seattle, WA) in Nov 2013

      Interview

Referred by an employee and met with a university recruiter. On month later they flew me out to Seattle for an interview. I stayed in Marriott not too far from Main Campus, they treat their recruits really well. I got $75 a day just for food, plus other things. My interview started at 9am, I was then driven by a shuttle to Microsoft's advanta campus (about 20 minutes away). The first person I met with just talked about the position itself and what exactly this Program managing position was like because PM roles vary widely depending on where you're placed. I was hoping to not get a super technical one (since I was interesting in Ux, but I did, it was still really interesting tho). He asked me a basic design question. Then I went on to my second person. It was a bit odd because they had me wait outside the office while they both spoke about me ( I got kicked out of a common area once since a guy wanted to have a meeting there, was odd) . All the interviews were about the same, just design questions, no coding questions. I went through 5 interviews (including the as appropriate) but unfortunately it did not work out for me. I would suggests that when they ask you design questions, of course ask them questions to clarify but don't be afraid to just jump right in a design and ask clarification questions mid way through. I asked too many questions from the start that there were times I was unable to go through the full design process. Also, think out loud but if your mind wanders a bit from use case to use case when you design things, filter your thinking a bit. I always get to a good design but sometimes my thinking process is a bit scattered so be sure to think out loud, but beware of sounding scatter brained!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Pretty easy question but it's one that you can over think by asking a lot of questions! You are going to have a showing next week for a new search program your making for enterprise businesses. Unfortunately, you have two large problems- 1) scalability 2) inputted data is getting lost in translation (u don't know where it is, but you can't view it in the end). You only can fix one before the showing, which one and why?

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Microsoft (Hyderabad) in Jan 2026

      Interview

Not a great experience with interviews taking 1 month to complete. Despite ongoing communication, the role did not move forward, reportedly due to approval constraints. The overall experience highlights a gap in aligning internal approvals before progressing candidates to advanced stages. Clearer communication and better alignment internally would improve the candidate experience

      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA)

      Interview

The interview process is grueling and I get why people do it but its more awareness, know that you'll spend an entire day and meet several people, so it's important to be mentally and physically prepared. Eat a good breakfast but not heavy stay hydrated. This was just for a PM role it's their standard process I imagine executive level is another thing altogether

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you didn't agree with someone who was a stakeholder on your project and how did you handle that?

      Interview

Very smooth, thoughtful interview process. It showed the recruiter really cared what I had to contribute and asked great followup clarifying questions. Would definitely recommend everyone try an interview with them even if it doesn't pan out.
