Interview
I applied online. After one background chat and two technical phone interviews, I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Feb. 2016.
I got four questions onsite (1 machine learning design, 2 algorithm, and 1 operating system). The question asked wasn't too hard. I didn't make it to the next round though.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft in May 2016
Interview
A Microsoft recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn. After initially scheduling a phone screen, I realized I had a schedule conflict and asked the recruiter to reschedule several times over the next few days through direct email and LinkedIn with no response. I skipped my other commitment to make the call and the recruiter was unprepared, having the wrong resume and generally being curt with the questions/responses.
After passing the recruiter screen, I was told I would have a 1 hour technical phone interview. However, I don't know if that was communicated to the interviewer as the interview was instead less than 30 min talking through my resume before the interviewer had to leave for a meeting.
I was told I would hear back in the next few days, but I never ended up getting a response so I'm assuming I was passed over.
Overall, disappointingly disorganized.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Feb 2016
Interview
I did two interviews at Microsoft with two different organizations. The first one was terrible; I was standing at board solving questions %90 of the time which made very tired.
The second interview with the other organization was much better. It was very casual and friendly and I had a good combination of standing and sitting. The questions were reasonable and straight forward.
