I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Bengaluru) in Jan 2020

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft in Jan 2024
Interview
1st short interview with recruiter,2nd interview with team manager and 3rd interview block, 4 hour long interviews with various folks from different locations (engineer, manager, product owner). All interviews were done remote via teams.
A week after the final interview block, I got a rejection email. A week after that, I got another email saying the first email was a mistake and I was actually moving forward. After chasing down the recruiters for clarification, I was told that second email was a mistake and I wasn't getting an offer. It was a real emotional rollercoaster for those 2 weeks.
Microsoft is aggressively hiring in Prague to move roles to a cheaper market. I guess with the volume of candidates they're managing at the moment, they really dropped the ball with how they handled my case. Very frustrating experience.

Design an authentication system that combines two separate userbases (after MS bought skype they had two sorts of credentials that needed to be treated equally)
Very nice experience. Interviewers are friendly and supportive. Tasks were not difficult at all, but design interview I failed because didn’t really prepare. Had some trie questions. Nevertheless, overall well-organized process.
