I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Menards (Morton Grove, IL) in Apr 2011
Interview
The interview is nothing to be feared, it's been a while for me but here it goes. First, they ask you why do you want to work at Menards? I answered that I was looking for something with reasonable pay for a part time position while I go to school full time, and that I enjoy working with people and want to help them in improving their homes. Next they ask you if you have any prior knowledge in any fields such as plumbing, electrical etc. If you do not, it's fine to say so, they will train you with online materials etc. They ask you if there is a certain department you want to work in, again if you say no they will find a place. They may ask you how many hours a week and what days you are available but this is something that you will discuss with your department managers. They might ask you about your current or previous job and try to see how it fits with the store environment. All of this is done by the HR coordinator followed by similar questions by one of the store GMs. You will sit in the conference room located near where the HR coordinator and the GMs have their desks.
