      Technical Lead Interview

      Aug 25, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Pune
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Mastercard (Pune) in Jul 2024

      Interview

1st Round: HR Screening round 1. HR will call and ensure genuineness of the candidate. 2. Salary, Role & Responsibilities expectations. 3. Availability for the next round. 2nd Round: Telephonic round - Technical Round - Interviewer was Senior Technical Lead 1. Practical aspects of Microservices Architecture i.e. decoupling, scalability, reliability, troubleshooting, availability, observability. 2. Quick discussion on my past projects especially cloud based where I had used Microservices. 3. Questions about best coding practices, exception and error handling strategies, how to ensure quality, what to review in code-reviews. 3rd Round : Techno-managerial Round - Interviewer was Technical Director 1. Asked me about my current startup and tech stack. He was not convinced about our choice of tech stack and was very sceptical about the very low cost we are incurring thanks to free tier of AWS. 2. Then he asked about kind of a system design problem : the problem statement was ambiguous (mostly it was intentional). Architect a system to facilitate seamless money transfer across countries. I asked him whether it's a system like 'western union', to which he said yes. But, later on when I started to design the system, he said that it's a system to enable players like western union. I got confused about the roles of different entities and he couldn't clarify them properly (not sure if my questions were not proper or it was his limitation). 3. Apparently, he was not quite positive but still continued. 4. Asked me about how we ensure security in our current system. Explained him about how we have implemented OAuth. 4th Round: System Design Round - Interviewer was Technical Architect 1. Problem Statement : Design a system where data will be ingested into it from various sources. The consumers of the system will ask for any combination of the raw data and will build analytics on top of it. 2. Expectation is that you highlight : Authentication, authorization, sanity of data, handling duplicates, discarding data with missing fields, registration of participants, registration of external systems, allowing consumers to define schema\mapping of fields, automating the ingestion. 3. Since I completed the above one before time, he asked me another question: design a REST API to upload a huge file. Here, he was looking for batching\chunking, unblocking the client by introducing aync mechanism, generating upload id's for tracking and storage of data. 4. What are your contributions to innovations/patents so far? Since, I had founded a startup, he was quite convinced and satisfied with my contribution in this areas. 5th Round: Techno-Managerial Round with Hiring Manager 1. Brief introduction from both sides. 2. Java : Explain fail-fast and fail-safe iterators, how can an instance of a class be created without using new keyword, how to use native modules in Java, how to interact with database. 3. C#.NET : I have decent experience in both C# and JAva and that's the profile they were looking for. Questions were pretty much similar to Java only. 4. There were a few behavioural questions which I don't recall now. Probably they were like tell me the most challenging assignment you accomplished, tell me about your recent failure and how you overcame it.

      Question 1

All the questions which I remember have been mentioned above. Go to their website and you'll find good material there as well to help you prepare for the interview. Don't just rely on them but it gives a good idea of what they are looking for in a candidate.
