I applied for the role online as soon as the position was available (I had notifications for job alerts at Lush) and about 4 days later I got an email saying congratulations, inviting me to the first interview (group interview).
I have never applied for a job before so this was my first ever job interview, though the email said to wear something you are comfortable in, I still dressed slightly more formal than what I would usually wear: White and navy striped top with 3/4 sleeves, a knee length navy skirt with gold, silver and diamond embellishments down the front, frilly socks and black jelly bean shoes.
On arrival I feel that I stood out from the other girls as there was a lot of jeans and tshirts, many of the staff complimented me on my outfit which made me feel a lot better. We were asked to queue outside of a large room while they took details, after that we were told to just sit down, have a drink and talk to the other candidates which was a little daunting at first but I very quickly began talking to a group of girls about our favourite products.
Once everyone had finished with their details a member of staff invited us all to the next room where we were split into 4 groups to carousel around different tasks:
1. My first task was speed dating, in a group of 10 we were split into partners and were given 2 minutes to ask a series of questions "What is your favourite Lush product?" "What superhero powder would you have and why?" "Last book you read" to get us to open up a little, we then played a game of quick fire questions and fun facts about ourselves. I usually struggle with group tasks as I have Aspergers but I found this to be really fun, and it definitely helped me for the rest of the interview.
2. The second task was very simple, we all sat around a table where we filled in available working days on a questionnaire, it also had questions about what we see as good customer service.
3. Task 3 was a lot more hands on, we sat around a table which was full of massage bars and dusting powder, the staff leading the task told us all to swap seats to ensure we work with people we don't know. They gave a demo of selling a massage bar and using it on a customer, and then asked us to do it to our partner. It was a really strange experience but was actually really easy! During massaging our partners arm we were asked to have a natural conversation as well as mentioning what is beneficial about the products (Eg. lavender helps to relax for bed, cocoa butter is good for the skin).
4. The final task was my favourite...BATH BOMBS! Moving to the back of the room there was two tables: One with a display of bath bombs and bubble bars, and one with lots of bowls and jugs or water. We were asked to partner up again, then choose a bath product to sell in under 30 seconds. Me and my partner chose Big Blue because we knew a lot about this product. We were given a couple of minutes to discuss what we're going to talk about and how we're going to give a demo of the bath product. I opened this by stating its name, talking about how strongly scented it is and how attractive it is as a bath bomb before dropping it into the water. My partner then talked about the useful oils in it, and I concluded the sale with mentioning the benefits of sea salt and sea weed while I let the others in the group touch and smell the water.
During the tasks, members of staff wrote notes about us all to decide who gets the next interview.
After the tasks were finished, everyone re gathered in the main room where the staff explained they'll be in touch whether we get the next interview or not and then they gave us gift bags with a bottle of shower gel (I got Happy Hippy) and a Lush magazine!
It was a lovely interview, I'm still waiting for my reply.
