I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Marion, IN) in Feb 2025
Interview
The interview process was perfectly fine, but what wasn’t fine was the background check process. Lowes goes out of their way to mention the fact that they proudly incorporate a diverse group of people in their staff, and that it is encouraged for them to hire people, regardless of their record within reason. While answering the questions for the background check, it asked me to type in any felonies or misdemeanors that I have on my record, except for any traffic violations. I did exactly what was asked. After days of confusion and misunderstandings I received an email stating that I would not be considered for any opportunities at Lowes due to the information found on my background, check in regard to drug and alcohol. Needless to say this company talks to talk, but they surely don’t walk the walk. They falsely advertise taking diversity in account when hiring. This not only made me feel more embarrassed about my past than I already was, but also very upset for having to waste my time on a company that clearly doesn’t care about integrity and lies to look good to people applying. Telling me to leave out any traffic violations then using my traffic violations against me is low to say the least.

Disappointing Interview Experience and Lack of Veteran Support
As a veteran, I was disappointed by how I was treated throughout Lowe's interview process. Despite the company’s pride in supporting veterans, my experience was unprofessional. My second-round interview was scheduled for Christmas Eve, but the senior director didn’t show up, with no follow-up. After seeing the job reposted, I reached out to the recruiter and was reassured that I was still being considered. The VP interview was scheduled for January 3, and despite my flexibility around the holidays, I was ultimately rejected. It’s difficult to understand how a fair decision could be made when the initial interview was missed without communication. Overall, this process felt disorganized and disrespectful, especially for a veteran.

Interview
Booked an interview with the HR rep at a local store. Completed online app. Arrived early. The HR rep was not in the building.
I was shuffled off to meet with an assistant manager. He could not access my app and nobody on his team could either.
We sat down for an "interview" and he had a photo copy of some document as a guide.
Typical questions - "Tell me about a time . . " and a few more favorites.
I left and never heard another peep out of them.
I shop at Lowes and for the most part find the experience acceptable.
The experience left me very disappointed.
Never again. And Home Depot gets all my dollars now.
