General questions about previous experience, followed by competency based interview questions. Information about the company and the role being hired for and about the salary and the package on offer.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Leonardo (Luton) in Mar 2019
Interview
First, the assessment center started off with a small tour of the Leonardo building.
Afterwards, we jumped straight into the presentation/interview depending on what group you were put it. I did the presentation first, and what I noted is that the initial advice I was given was quite misleading - the people you present to care deeply about the content you mention and will ask a plentiful amount of questions about anything you mention. I remember briefly mentioning quadrature modulation and then the next 5 questions were focused on that... make sure you know everything 100% when you present.
This then lead straight into the interview - yes, the same people who I presented too also interviewed me afterwards. I'd say this is the easiest part, it's basic competency based questions such as "when have you worked as a team" and "how have you motivated someone on your team to work harder".
The final stage of the assessment center was the written essay, which lets you choose from a set amount of questions (I believe it was 6 when I went) and then answer it in regards to a specific context. This was fairly straightforward, although I remember missing a point which came back to bite me in the butt when I received my scores through the feedback over the phone, which I'll get to know.
After the whole event, I was informed I hadn't got the place. I wasn't too upset, considering it was my first assessment center (and first in-person interview) and it was only my presentation that was bad, although it was very bad. The rest of my stuff was great, but again I cannot stress enough you must be an expert on exactly what you are talking about. My presentation was rushed which ended up being my kryptonite. I would always recommend asking for feedback at the end, as it's always good to learn what your weaknesses are. The lady over the phone was very kind and helped me throughout everything, even when my coach decided to be 45 minutes late (I arrived 5 minutes late).
I applied online. I interviewed at Leonardo (Luton, East of England, England) in Apr 2019
Interview
This was an Assessment Centre near Luton. We were invited for two days. The first day was an ice-breaker where we introduced ourselves. Then we were given a presentation as an introduction to the company by more senior members of staff. Then we were given a tour of the ground floor of the office. Access is restricted in the building, hence the requirement for escort.
Then we were told to go to where we were staying overnight. It was a Holiday Inn, but pleasantly given the larger rooms. It was a smart casual evening, where we met current graduates and got to ask them any questions, and let them give their opinion on working conditions etc. The first day is not assessed.
The second say was the assessment. It consisted of a Group Exercise, a Technical Interview and an essay exercise.
For the group exercise we were given a planning and team building exercise to complete infront of our assessors.
For the technical interview, we were told to prepare a presentation in advance to present to our assessors. It was during the interview I was asked questions to elaborate further on what I was presenting to fill in their curiosities. Having completed my presentation we moved into their technical and competency questions.
The essay exercise involved a number of questions you had a choice of answering, and a number of sources to reference at your disposal.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The first set of questions made during the technical interview was mainly checking my familiarity with FPGAs, and my motivation towards working with them. This is probably the most important part of the interview.
The second set of questions were competency based questions. These are the type of questions in the format of "Tell me a time when you showed initiative/other competency".
