I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Kmart (Detroit, MI)
Interview
very general, each store is different. it all depends on what you can offer to the company. you have to show you are articulate and will stay along time, you have to be aware of the products they sell and the demographics in the area and inventory control and up to date on technology.

Interview
Applied online and was called about 3 weeks later for an interview. They were pretty open ended concerning "what entry-level job are you interested in?" I asked if there were opportunities for growth, promotion, and after a year or so of very good work ethic, for even slight pay increases. To all of those, they said it was "determined per store" and they "couldn't say". I asked, since I'd performed around 2 hours of research about this company prior to my interview. All entry-level jobs were at $7.25/hr. I was polite but very honest and I let them know I could go to a temp agency up the road and get entry-level jobs for $8.00 - 8.50/hr. They would not negotiate so I thanked them for their time and left.

Can you see yourself working here? Do you have customer service? Where would you like to work in the store? What do people say is your best quality?

Interview
The woman from HR took me to the back to ask me some questions. No matter what answer I gave, it seemed to me she was going to hire me anyways. Whenever I was answering, she seemed to be distant. Another employee walked in and interrupted the entire interview. I was hired on the spot.
