I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Klarna (París) in Mar 2022
Interview
I went through the 4 initial interviews for a Solutions Engineer role based in Paris:
- initial scanning with HR – very nice, the recruiter was approachable and lively, to be noted a new joiner from Klarna was included as a guest
- case study involving creating API requests on Postman based on Klarna technical documentation (3 business days allocated to resolve the study). This was incredibly long and time-consuming, and quite technical - IMO not too relevant to select candidates for a SE (sales) position, rather something you could learn on the job
- supervised logic test: I still question the relevance of such tests in an interview process but this one was not too hard and we were given samples to practice
- case study putting yourself in the shoes of a SE selling the Klarna solution to a client, requiring you to prepare a full presentation with product/technical integration/sales considerations. Definitely relevant for the role but again very time-consuming as you need to set aside time out of your personal time to prepare well.
Other steps of the process included: Klarna leadership principles and culture interview, meeting with the team and I think 1 more with a Delivery Lead.
After successfully passing those steps, I was personally called by the recruiter informing me they would not be going forward given some other candidates were better and they were unsure the position would still be open anyway. Recruiter was very nice and willing to give feedback and help for further opportunities.
Pros: met interesting and nice people all along the recruitment process; good training that gives you an overview of all types of interviews if you’re starting your recruitment journey (because there are so many steps!)
Cons: long, time- and energy-consuming process; can feel impersonal

Interview
Easy interview process - a few behavioural/fit interviews followed by a technical exercise/presentation. 6-7 rounds overall before offer. Would recommend reading up on their APIs to ensure the technical round goes smoothly.

Question 1
Which Klarna principles resonate with you and why?

Interview
After a few rounds of interviews and 2 separate projects - a case study and a presentation project my final interview was cancelled an hour before it was set to begin. I was given 2 days notice to build a presentation deck for this interview, spent hours of my time preparing the deck as well as preparing my conversation notes and was abruptly cancelled before I was able to give my presentation. This was incredibly unprofessional in my opinion very disrespectful of my time and efforts.
I understand that the company is very busy and things are tightly scheduled but to give me 2 days to prepare for a presentation interview and then cancel that interview an hour beforehand is incredibly frustrating.
I do not fault the recruiter who has been incredibly helpful and responsive during this process but the way I was handled at that point was just awful.
