I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at KPMG (New York, NY) in Apr 2007
Interview
I got my interview through campus recruiting. The interview consisted of an initial one on one interview with a Manager and then a Senior Manager and then a second interview at the office (whole day, and if you get there, you likely will get an offer) I got a long with both of them very well. As such, the interview consisted mostly of me asking questions about accounting in general, KPMG as a firm, opportunities (international rotation etc), what I could expect at my first year at KPMG and so forth.
There was no tests or not any crazy technical questions. They did ask me to walk through my resume on a high level and asked me some very basic accounting questions. They also asked me about my expectations and some classic interview questions.
After this initial process, I got called back for a second interview which consisted of me visiting the office. My feeling was that I already had the offer in my hand. It was just a big presentation of the company, i.e. 5 min round table discussion with a partner or a senior manager. Then we had some group exercises but that mostly games for fun. In general, if you get to the day at the office, congrats, you're in!
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at KPMG in Oct 2009
Interview
I had two 1:1 interviews on the career forum site. One with a HR person and the other with a partner of the specific office. Both interviewers were friendly and polite. The first one with the HR took less than 10 minutes and the second one with the partner took about a half hour.

Describe the difficult situation when you had to deal with.
The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at KPMG in Sep 2007
Interview
Its a fairly easy interview, very conversational with talking about yourself. They just want to know that you're able to converse with people, they already have your resume and know you have a great GPA, etc. I wasn't asked any behavioral questions.
