John Lewis & Partners interview questions

Completed online tests and then I was invited to an assessment centre. We had to do a group activity, we were given a list of tasks and asked how we would prioritise them. Then we had to answer some more questions related to scenarios we would face at work.

This interview was for my first ever job. I was invited about a week after applying online and was asked to book a group interview from a few available dates. I arrived at the partner entrance and we were swiftly taken up to a big room with tables, and at the end of each table there was a current employee at the store, taking notes. There were 4-5 of us (interviewees) sat at each table. We were then given 5 situations set in a John Lewis store of the future and asked to prioritise them as a group. They were clearly looking for people who were confident and not afraid to give suggestions. I made one or two decisions that were opposed by the rest of the interviewees at the table, however I still managed to get the job which I believe was due to my willingness to suggest new ideas and ability to take constructive criticism to re-evaluate my choices. After this we were given three more situations, however we had to complete these individually in an answer booklet. At the end, we were given a form to put down our availability, and after being presented with four different work rotas, we were asked to list which three we would be available for in order of preference.
