An online test was conducted first up. It contained 30 technical questions and 30 aptitude questions, lasting 75 minutes both sections combined. Focus was mainly on fluid mechanics, strength of materials and materials science.
Shortlisted students were divided into groups of 8 for a group discussion (GD). Topics were of the type: Does India need bullet trains or better trains? Is cashless economy relevant for India? Should national anthem be played in cinemas?
Last round was personal interview. Questions tested conceptual clarity and presence of mind. Focus was on thermodynamics, turbomachines, plant layout and heat transfer. Some questions involved application of simple concepts taught in high school physics. The interviewer asked for details about academic projects and internship as well.
