      Software Product Assurance Engineer Interview

      Feb 24, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Manchester, Inglaterra
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at IGT (Manchester, Inglaterra) in Feb 2017

      Interview

I arrived at the building which was very clean and well presented, I was offered a beverage and asked to wait for the interviewers. I was then walked to an office in where it began. The interview comprised of 3 sub interviews by different people from different departments, A Tester, Developer, and Management. I went through a recruitment agent for this job and they asked for someone with a passion for games development, I have a degree in the subject and have tested computer games for 6 months. The initial interview with the tester went very well we talked about the company and my character, ambitions and work history. I asked relevant questions about perks, average working days and general environment. I was given an Iphone in which to test a slots game and asked my process on how I would proceed to test the application. I proceeded to detail my process and how it would test the games functionality. The second interview was a developer his questions more directed towards test methodologies and tech based questions and how I would deal with internal disputes with developers. I explained my reasons and I would try to solve most issues amicably but would go to higher management if it blocked my working to the best of my ability. The third interview was a Manager, I felt she asked really harsh questions about APIs and LINUX systems things I have no formal education using. This would lead me to give incomplete answers and I was very self aware that this was turning badly. She detailed these practices via paper which I thought was quite patronizing, I felt if she phrased things differently I would have understood as I have practiced some of them in a working environment at my game testing position but did not know them under that name. After further questions relating to my troubleshooting techniques about how I would deal with certain scenarios I explained I would back track along my steps until I found the issue and rectify it according to the correct steps to do so. I would also download the build again to ensure the data was not corrupt or incomplete. She replied with the game client would need to be restated and looked disappointed, I felt that i was on the back foot as every company has different ways of deal with issues and I gave an answer to the best of knowledge and ability. Overall I felt I did well, I did not receive an offer due to concerns about my experience but they were aware of my limited experience and I tried to put across my aptitude for learning.
