Regarding the hiring and interview process, i applied online via the "careers" section of the website www.gapinc.com and within two (2) days i received a call from the hiring manager, to come in for an interview on Thursday of the same week. The interview was relatively easy and somewhat generic/textbook, it was in a group panel format (4 other persons) in the stock/back area of the store. The hiring manager began by giving some background information about the company with respect to its history, past/current owners, and the products that they provided (apparel, footwear accessories). Following, we were asked some questions that i personally render as typical to anyone applying for a position within the retail industry such as:
1. Tell me about yourself, school and work history.
2. Why do you want to work for Gap?
3. Define your idea of good customer service.
4. Tell me about a time when you received or exercised good customer service skills.
Following this, we had somewhat of a role play/selling task which after doing much research is TYPICAL of most Gap interviews. Here, we had to pick a particular outfit (head to toe), explain our choices, and then attempt to sell it to the hiring manager who was acting as a customer. Finally, we proceeded back to the stock area, where she rounded up the interview by discussing work availability, scheduling, and the hours/salary for the position if one was selected.
