Environmental Health and Safety Specialist Interview

      Jan 27, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Frisco, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at GEA Group (Frisco, TX) in Jan 2019

      Interview

Phone interview: Easy, the follow up lack of communication was frustrating. The lady that scheduled follow on interviews ignored any emails until she had a date, even though throughout the process I kept getting told to contact them if I had any questions. I ended up writing it off as anything until out of the blue, she contacted me (about 3 weeks later) Finally had the face to face.. The interviewer showed up 30 minutes late, had to get called off his snack break. He showed up and said I was early, even though I had the email available to show the scheduled time..moving on, he had a giant big gulp and was loudly slurping it throughout the interview. He had a bunch of questions about my military service and told me if he had joined he would have excelled in Naval Special Operations etc. Also had a discussion about his Paleo diet (as he loudly sipped off the large soda container) Then told me that he couldn't tell me officially that I got the job but I would be hearing from the company within 2 weeks. He gave me hints on negotiating a salary. So after almost 3 weeks, I called him- (again was told to contact him if I had questions). He ended up answering the phone, I could tell I was on speaker phone, he acted like he had never heard of me and then informed me that I didn't get the job and followed up with an email. I can't help but think this guy just needed to accomplish some sort of life goal by having total control over someone with military background. In the end, I dodged a huge bullet, as I would have been working for this guy. Transitioning from the military after 22 years is difficult, but it makes it easier when these guys self identify as toxic before investing any further time with the company. Not sure about the rest of GEA, but steer clear of their safety program.
