I applied online. The process took 7 months. I interviewed at GE (Minneapolis, MN) in Sep 2008
Interview
Set of phone interviews initially, 1 with recruiter, 1 with hiring manager, 1 with department director. Followed up with on-site interview with HR manager (site), site leader, engineering manager, phone interview with another product manager. Second follow-up on site interview with VP of Group. Additional follow-up interview with hiring manager in Europe (was over there for current job, decided to contact hiring manager on my own initiative to see if we could possibly meet in person. Had lunch together, and that meeting sealed the deal).
Offer came a couple of weeks thereafter. Entire process took over 6 months which was frustrating.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me specifically what you bring to us that can benefit the organization in this role I just described?
Your background, years of PM experience
Whether you’ve shipped real products
High-level motivation (“Why this company?”)
Expected salary & start date
Communication clarity
Depth check on your product sense, ownership, execution ability.
Multi-step. Recruiter, manager, and panel of peers. It took around 2 months to complete and fairly straight forward. The next steps were communicated and interviewers respectful. Would try to land a role again the future.
The interview process was fair and efficient. The interviewers asked good questions and gave me a fair opportunity, although I did not receive an offer. My experience was a good one.
