      EFL Teacher Interview

      Aug 25, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Barcelona
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at EF (Education First) (Barcelona) in Aug 2017

      Interview

I received an Email advertizing for a position at the Barcelona office. It really did seem too good to be true. They offered €2,600 a month plus housing with a computer. I´ve never seen a deal like this in Spain, not for an English teacher. But I applied as EF is a huge ¨legitimate¨ company. We were to have the interview via Skype on Saturday at 1:00 pm. I got on and they said they were having problems with the mic and asked if I could sign on at 3:00 pm. I did and they asked if I could sign on the following Tuesday at 1:00 pm. So that right there was one Saturday afternoon wasted. Whatever, so I got on Skype on Tuesday at 1:00, and the mic worked but not with the video, which for me was fine. However, when the interviewer, who had a thick accent which I could barely understand, asked me to tell him about myself and I mentioned the fact that I had been living in Spain for the past 12 years, he immediately cut me off and said, ¨Oh, you live in Spain? I thought you were from outside. Are you a Spanish resident?¨ I was thinking, ¨Ok, did you not read my CV?¨ But I said yes, and then he asked if I could come to Barcelona for a face-to-face interview because it would be ¨easier¨ that way. He then said that he would email me the details a few minutes later, and I said ok and that I was willing to go to Barcelona (however, I would have liked to have finished the Skype interview). He then abruptly finished the Skype call and that was that. Four days later and I still hear no word from EF, even after sending two emails. I also called the number, which is the correct number on the website, and an operated voice system keeps telling me to call back later. In other words, The EF Barcelona office is dodgy as hell. No harm was done or anything, but I could have thought of other ways to spend two afternoons trying to prepare for and have an interview that I never did have (and probably never will have at this point). Below I say that the interview difficulty level is ¨very easy¨. I literally finished in two minutes.
