I applied in-person. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Dollar General (Campobello, SC) in Jun 2011
Interview
Attaining an interview was a swift process by telephone, but first I had to complete an application printed from online and bring it in. At the interview, we discussed my purposes in applying to work there (for me it was a summer job before I went off to college), how I deal with people, the number of hours I could expect to work (everyone is part-time except for managers), and the non-negotiable hourly rate of pay. I completed some online tests for training at another Dollar General location because the computer system was out of order. The manager said she would call me when I could work, and in fact called me a few days later asking me to come in later that afternoon. The short notice was difficult because they do not provide uniforms; you must purchase your own yellow/black shirt and black pants. Seeing that I had no plain yellow or black shirts, I had to settle on the only one I could find in that short time. I was then ridiculed for not wearing something with a collar. Otherwise, the first day of training was alright.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The most difficult question for me was about the pay. This being my first real job, I expected them to tell me how much I would be paid to start out. Nevertheless, my request would not have mattered because they were going to pay me minimum wage as a part-time employee.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Dollar General (Las Vegas, NV) in Nov 2012
Interview
I came in thinking the interview was going to be a load full of questions like walmart. i had to assistant managers give me a run down I on the company and how fast you can move in the business as long as you work hard. so was called back in 2 days to speak to the gm and was offered the job. I have a misdemeanor for grand theft so i figured i wouldn't get called back.I didn't get a drug test just a background screen which The background check took a week an i was called back to start work.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I really didn't have any difficult questions asked. I was asked in my 2nd Interview "why should we hire you?"
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Dollar General
Interview
I applied online and within a week received a call to schedule an interview time. I arrived ten minutes early and was shortly greeted by the Manager. Along with the Assistant Manager, he asked when I would be available to work, what prior work experience I had, which concentrated on retail experience. He talked a little of the store, but didn't go into much detail. Before the conclusion of the interview, he sent an email containing the hire packet. That night I filled out the information and submitted it, which sent off for the background check.

Question 1
No difficult or unexpected questions. I was asked only about prior experience and what times I was available to work.
