I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Databricks (Ámsterdam) in Feb 2025
Interview
Straightforward process: recruiter call, Hiring manager call, Roleplay, Panel interview (multiple managers), offer.
What was very central is this 'Behavioural Questioning' you get so often nowadays.
It felt a bit rushed. I only spoke to the recruiter and one person from Databricks throughout the whole process (3 rounds), every round I heard I was successful right after and they wanted to plan the next call ASAP ("can you do tomorrow?").
Last round was locked in and then one day before my last interview I get an email from the recruiter that they went ahead with other candidates.
When I arranged for a call for feedback I could only get the feedback from the recruiter screening call and nothing more. I had 3 rounds after that...
So it felt rushy, felt as if there was a short timeline to be met, felt as if they had to hire and put me in as a backup in case the ones with an offer did not take it, and once they did, there was no need to go on with me.
Unfortunately, not the way I would expect a company to treat people on the job market (who progress through the interview stages successfully).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Explain to me in your own words what Databricks does.
- Okay, now imagine you would have to explain to your grandmother in simple terms.
This question, in different forms (e.g. explain to a child) came back every round, and I guarantee this will be asked.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Databricks (Chicago, IL)
Interview
First round screening call was interesting. Interviewer did not sound all too happy to be on the call. Tried to reach back out to the recruiter but the email was "invalid" after a month or so when sending followup (probably left the company or got fired).
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Databricks in Feb 2025
Interview
The interviewer was quick a direct. They had a set of questions to filter out candidates. They are seeking relevant experience and are clear on the expectations on the the role. They also explained the metrics I would be evaluated on. They asked salary expectation early, they said that the base I was asking for was too high which was 5-10% higher than their upper range they mentioned. The energy of the interviewer was low energy and didn't seem like they didn't want to be there from the begining. It seemed like they was tired of their job but still had to get their job done.

Total comp expectation? (sum of base + commission)
