I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Caterpillar (Champaign, IL) in May 2012
Interview
There are only behavioral questions in the interview. When have you gone beyond the call of duty? Tell me a time when you were a leader? Tell me about a time where you had somebody difficult to work with in a group and how did you handle the situation? Pretty basic/expected stuff. Having hands on experience and or design experience would definitely help to get this internship.

They are all behavior based. If you look up behavioral questions online you should be fine as long as you prepare.
I applied online. I interviewed at Caterpillar in Jan 2026
Interview
1 hour with 2 interviewers. There were about 5-6 questions, and you MUST follow the STAR method. They seemed to be taking extensive notes between each question. They also said if I didn't like the question that I could ask for an alternative question as the questions were meant to learn a specific trait about me.
