HR call - Aug 23
First Interview - Aug 30th with 2 people - one completely non technical, other from a different tech background. Questions were still okay.
Second Inteview - 3 hr - 3 separate panels.
Round 1 - Totally non technical, some weird STAR method. One of the 2 guys were yawning.
Round 2 - Technical Interview. Finally someone related to tech. Questions were very simple and straight forward.
Round 3 - Two non tech managers. Again STAR questions!!!!!! Really!!!!
Next day HR reaches out the says there will be another round of interview but did not give any date. Emailed her back but no response. Called but no one bothered to call back.
Called another HR lady , she mentions that she will check and get back.
Got an email next day saying they have hired another candidate.
I believe they are not looking for strong developers, rather looking for strong story tellers.
Very unprofessional . It is a waste of time and effort.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax in Sep 2021
Interview
5 separate interviews. 3 of them were 1-hour back-to-back interviews with 0 breaks in-between. You sit on a call and wait for new leaders to come into the meeting and ask questions.
The questions themselves were fairly easy, but the interviewers were sometimes not good about asking for follow-up or clarification if needed. They also required hyper-specific examples of past experience, which was difficult to do over the course of 3 hours.
After the 3 hour interview gauntlet, I stood up from my chair and fell to the floor because I was lightheaded and dizzy from talking non-stop for 3 hours straight. If you have issues with being able to do this, I suggest not applying here.
