I applied online. I interviewed at CarMax (Fort Worth, TX) in May 2021
Interview
As it is a highly demanded role, it took about 2 weeks between the first interview by phone and the third interview which was a simulation. Everyone was very friendly and gave a good feedback at the end.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
It was a role play where I had to help a customer by phone and another in person.
Extremely easy and interesting interview. The interviewer walked me through the steps of the entire interview. Even through I was not the right fit for one position I was quickly recommended for a different position
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at CarMax (Richmond, VA) in May 2021
Interview
Was cold-called by internal recruiter...who set up a 30 minute screen. That was a relaxed chat...ending with, "just apply formally and I'll get you to the next step.." Recruiter name-dropped a well-known product guru repeatedly (lionized author of PM books).
Application was handled by their Workday instance...which routed me through a 30 minute+ 'assessment' (personality test) and a visual logic test (another 15+ minutes).
These assessments were poorly explained, unexpected (I thought I was just dropping off a resume) and of dubious value for a leadership position in product management. The experience itself was a depressing example of crappy UI.
Emailed recruiter to withdraw.

Question 1
None, really, in person. Online assessment, from the company Outreach, was comically weird.
