I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Columbus, GA) in Mar 2014
Interview
The first step is a phone screening with the Manager's Assistant. You will then be scheduled a phone interview with a member of management. From there, an in-person interview is scheduled, and finally an interview with the Location General Manager.

Question 1
The in-person interview requires you to "sell" a car to two members of management. You will be in the show room and role play a scenario which they have sent you prior to the interview time
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CarMax
Interview
Long interview process that was 6-7 hours, hired same day, lots of false promises in the commission structure. They would say you can make over 100k when in reality the cap is right at 90-100k. If you sold 20 cars a month and had let's say 14 warranty's in there. You only get 184 bucks per car(this is president's club numbers, you get 160 if you're a normal employee) and another $180 (P. club #) for the warranty. With the commission adjustment it turns out to be around 7k a month.
If you did that at a traditional dealership, you'd be making 15k-20k a month. Source - Multiple family members and friends in the industry producing these results.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax (Atlanta, GA) in Mar 2012
Interview
There was an on-campus case interview, followed by online quantitative & personality assessments. I was then asked to come in to the office for an interview day, during which I took additional tests and had around 5 interviews with management. Around 3 of those were case interviews.
