I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Memphis, TN) in Jan 2016
Interview
The interview process is long and drawn out, so make sure you have afforded yourself enough time once you start to sit down and work through everything. The online application took me about 45 minutes, the phone interview was 20, and then the in-person was four and a half hours. I get that they need to be picky since they are putting new hires in close contact with inventory that cost a lot of money... but there has got to be a better way. At least a little heads up would be nice. Everyone that I met was nice enough. Lots of note taking. Lots of canned questions. The team that I did my mock sale with were really nice, but once we got out to the car they kind of rushed me and cut me off a lot. Not sure what that was about. Even though I was there during the middle of the day of a weekday, there still was a good bit of foot traffic, which was encouraging. I'll admit that I do still feel a certain kind of way about having my fate decided by two people who admittedly have never worked in the sale department of the store.

Name a time when you have gone above and beyond for a customer. Describe a time when you had to overcome a customer's objection and still close a sale.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CarMax (Boston, MA) in Jan 2016
Interview
I applied online. Received a call the next day scheduling a phone interview for two days later. They called and had a few questions to ask. Very easy and quick.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at CarMax (Richmond, VA) in Aug 2015
Interview
I already had a lot of things in play, so I was called in fairly quickly. They took up almost 9 straight hours of my time on site before making me wait for an answer and then declining me with no input, constructive criticism or feedback whatsoever. They make you drug screen during the initial process and not after offer, which is odd. Most people were friendly, only one out of many was fairly unpleasant.

Question 1
A lot of situational examples.... "Name one time when you XYZ". This assumes that everyone has, at some time or another, had similar experiences. I prefer questions in the now, like "how would you solve XYZ" - I'm not someone who dwells on the past, I'd rather face new challenges head-on.
