I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at CarMax (Atlanta, GA) in Mar 2026
Interview
My interview was a group panel more or less. There were about 4 guys total I spoke to. The first part of this process was two separate phone calls to discuss my experience and to pick my brain on scenario-based questions mostly using the STAR method. After both phone calls I took an online technician assessment. The in-person interview was more STAR based questions about general but also specific diagnosis skills. They were looking for knowledge of processes, tools, and check lists for the different repairs. Overall, I wouldn't say it was easy unless you are prepared and really know what you are talking about. In the end I was offered a spot on the detail team to become more familiar with the work environment and work my way up to Technician. They are definitely willing to work with you.

Longer then they said it would be, plan on an all day ordeal. Bring a book or something to kill time. Don't really respect the applicant's time. Felt like they were testing to see if you get frustrated over the unnecessary delays between interviews.

Just the usual give me a time something went bad for you.
