I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Boeing (Renton, WA) in Dec 2012
Interview
Boeing did not do an HR screen or phone screen. My initial point of contact with the company after dropping my resume was an email from the hiring manager for the position who arranged a time for me to come to the Boeing offices for an interview. Boeing interviews are very straightforward STAR interviews and mine was done with someone from HR and the hiring manager, and I was told in advance what type of questions to expect, although not how many or specifically what questions. The interview format is very structured and whiel they may sometimes ask follow-up questions or request more detail, there isn't much time for the interview and so they really ask the questions one after another. Two and a half weeks went by with no contact from Boeing after my in-person interview, and then the hiring manager emailed me and asked to set up a time to speak on the phone. The appointment was for another 4 days out and once we were on the phone, it took him just a few minutes to tell me I didn't have the job. I would have rather heard that by email because I interrupted my schedule for the workday to accommodate the call.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked a specific question that was sort of related to the job function and I had to relate it back to my own work experience. I was able to do so, but if I hadn't had experience in every area on the job description it would have been tricky to put together an answer.

Interview
There was an HR person that called a week before the interview (Saturday) on the phone. There were two people that were doing the interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The most important questions were about programming and software engineering. What software life cycle models have you used? Experience with software development? Different programming languages that you have used and projects that you have worked on? Do you have experience with Unix? If so, what shells? And then, there are the basic interviewing questions like talk about a time where there were issues with a project and how did you handle them. I had another interview with Boeing for another Software Engineering position and this one was the tougher one. One of the interviewers was very focused on technical questions and dove deeper into the answers I was giving so make sure to review the different projects and experiences you had because if you mention them, make sure you can answer any follow up questions they might have.
After the application, and if you make it, you get a phone interview that is a structured Interview. You will be asked given a situation and ask for your past experience with that situation. Each question requires you to explain the situation, actions you took and the results of your action.
