I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Boehringer Ingelheim (Phoenix, AZ) in Oct 2023
Interview
For reference, this interview took place last fall of '23 - I was a Sophomore in college at the time.
For this role, I got to the second level of the interview process. The first step was a 15-minute call with the recruiter discussing various aspects of your resume.
The second level was more challenging because you enter the call with all three of the program leaders who discuss your summer assignment with you and give you a line of questioning based on various aspects of your resume and the job you're applying for,
The unexpected part of the interview for me was answering various situations in my previous roles following the STAR method (situation, task, action, result). Since I'd never heard of this method before, my answers weren't as concise as I would've liked, but don't think it was the primary reason that I didn't move on to the next step of the process.
While they mentioned that I was the only applicant with prior sales experience, it sounded like I was one of only a few business majors applying with no connection to a life sciences degree. They sounded off on this part and were skeptical as to why I wanted to get into the pharmaceutical sales field. I responded with I'm a person who wants to learn a bit about everything and hasn't made any conclusions as to what exactly I want to "sell" in the world of sales.
Overall, I felt like the interviewers were very kind, but firm on the type of person they wanted. Wish you all the best of luck!
