I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Bath & Body Works (Harlingen, TX) in Jul 2011
Interview
I was contacted by a recruiter through LinkedIn, which was a first for me. She emailed me and we set a time for the following Monday for an initial phone interview. The phone interview started off pleasant enough however I'm a little burnt out on these phone interviews and generic behavioral questions (I've been interviewing quite a bit and the numerous levels of interviews is slowly killing me) and I could feel my interviewing powers failing. At the end of the interview I expected a "we'll let you know..", however she said she'd like to set up an interview with the DM or the DM who was interim at the time. She handed me off to a Recruiting Coordinator who emailed me some documents to fill out and fax in and set up a time with the DM. I quickly filled them out and faxed them in and got feedback from all my references that they had called. On Thursday I went to a local store to meet with the DM - she was a new hire to the company and had recently come from being a RM for Walmart. She was running late as she was finishing up another interview for a different position. She let me know that she was unprepared for this interview due to the fact that the recruiter had called her and asked her to take this interview. It was a pretty standard interview - behavioral questions, pleasant chat , we joked about the location, talked about retail business in Texas, yada yada yada. The whole interview took about 45 minutes, a good length, however at the end she let me know that there was a large amount of internal interest in this position and she was interviewing the ASM of that location the following day.
I shook her hand and new I'd never hear from her again.

I had 2 interviews with them. It was average questions that gauge your management style. Personality and Motivation to work within their company. I found it to be Easy and Helpful.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Bath & Body Works in Oct 2025
Interview
DM was late to interview, store had. no idea I was coming so I was left wandering around the store til the DM arrived 10 mins after my interview should have started. She didn't seem to know anything about me, never pulled out a resume or referenced any of my previous experiences. She took notes on a spiral notebook and asked seemingly random questions.
After about 15 mins I was sent to the sales floor to do an "in-store experience," except the DM randomly disappeared without providing instructions and I was once again left wandering aorund the store. I finally asked the store staff what I was supposed to be doing and they gave me a store tour and were really great to chat with. The DM came back after another 15 mins and said "sorry I really needed to take that call." She then asked me what I had learned, which I told her about the store tour and getting to know the staff, but didn't know what else she meant by that as no direction had been provided. I was then told next steps would be with a peer DM, and the term "if you move forward" was used multiple times.
It felt very much like the DM was disconnected or distracted and was unprepared or just maybe had no interest in me at all. Who takes a call in the middle of an interview, unless its urgent?
Sure enough, I finally emailed over a week later asking for an update, and received a very generic and automated rejection response. The more I think about it, it feels like I dodged a bullet.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
"Tell me what you're working on now."
"Tell me about a time you failed."
Lengthy process and zero follow up from the recruiter after ensuring I would receive another round of interviews. I never received any response that the position had closed either or been filled.
