Interview
Iniital application - standard CV, academic information
Online appitude tests - Verbal and numerical reasoning. Practise, Practise, Practise. You have lots of questions to answer and not much time. Try and estimate where possible. Verbal reasoning is more straight forward than the numerical. Practise some more and don't panic.
Telephone Interview - Ask questions relating to Barclays as a company. E.g. Your understanding of difference between retail and business banking.
-Regulatory issues facing Barclays
Role specific questions - Challenges facing the HR industry?
-why you would like a role in HR?
Then compentency based.
Make notes of what they ask in this part, as they pick one general compentancy and then a lot of detail to include in your answer. I had forgotten the initial competency by the time they had listed the different details they expected. I had about 4 competancy based questions in total.
I was told that i couldn't use another work place example, as had already used 3. This really threw me and ended up using a very poor example and regretted it quickly. If you feel an example fits the competancy better be quite insistant on using it. As a good answer is better than a poor one. But make sure to prepare examples from work, hobbies, clubs. They don't like uni work examples.
