I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Bank of America (Charlotte, NC) in May 2010
Interview
Initially contacted by B of A recruiter in early February, 2010. Described role to me, seemed interesting. Salary discussed was very competitive. Was then contacted by HR VP. Great conversation. Was recommended to go to next stage: Took almost 4 months to get to that next stage of having a 1:1 interview with VP Executive. Lasted about 45 minutes. Was told that it would be more informational and exploratory, which it was. A great conversation, albeit a short one. HR contact coached me on what the VP Exec was looking for. That was a foreign experience for me. Still in the process. Seems promising.
I suggest that you win over HR, as they appear to be one of a candidate's biggest allies.
