Interview
The interview process at Amazon varies pretty widely from team to team and there doesn't seem to be much standardization. Pretty much all of the questions are either algorithmic puzzles or software design problems.
I met with five different people over the course of the interview. Three of them were developers who asked me design and algorithm questions. One was a manager who also asked me similar questions. One was an HR representative who asked me soft questions.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Nov 2015
Interview
The recruiters were extremely helpful in guiding me through the interview process. I had a great time speaking with the hiring manager. All the interviewers were extremely knowledgeable, and asked interesting questions.
Amazon conducted two forty five minute on campus interviews with me. Both interviewers looked tired and had obviously been working very long hours (possibly no break). One interviewer was helpful, engaged, and interactive. The other just seemed like he was ready to go home. The key to success was attention to detail because the questions were straight forward.
