Interview
I recently had a job interview experience that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I was contacted by a recruiter for a position that seemed like a great fit for my skills and experience. However, despite having my master's student status clearly mentioned on my resume, the interview ended.
I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Jan 2023
Interview
If you want to land a project manager role at Amazon, you need to ace your interview. This means preparing well for the specific questions and scenarios that Amazon uses to assess your fit for their leadership principles and culture. You should also use the STAR method to structure your answers, which stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. This helps you to provide concrete and relevant examples of how you managed projects, solved problems, and delivered results in your previous roles. Additionally, you should practice your answers beforehand, either with a friend, a coach, or by yourself. This will help you to improve your communication skills, confidence, and delivery. Another important aspect of preparing for an interview at Amazon is to get comfortable with the online platform and the interviewer. You should test your equipment and internet connection before the interview, dress professionally and comfortably, and greet the interviewer with a smile and a friendly introduction. You should also maintain eye contact, use positive body language, and show enthusiasm and interest throughout the interview.

Interview
After submitting my application I got a recruiter email and did the online assessment within the first three weeks. After the online assessment (which covered basic things like logic and some PM-specific questions), I was invited for a phone screening. The interviewers at this stage were quite nice. I remember one of them trying to lighten the mood with a joke. Some of their questions here focused on my background with a few questions on customer obsession. They gave me a 2-page take-home assignment after this, where I was asked to create a PRD for a fictional Amazon product
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The onsite interviews took place at their Seattle office. Some of the questions I was asked were What is the cost of production of a kindle service? (estimation question) Tell me about one time you went above and beyond for a customer. What did you learn? How do you prioritize your responsibilities? What is your definition of a happy customer? Many of the PM questions at Amazon tend to focus on their leadership principles so being familiar with those can go a long way in your preparation. In addition, I used Product Alliance’s Amazon Flagship course and Cracking the PM interview to prepare myself for the interview. The course was quite helpful, they did a deep dive into specific areas Amazon recruiters are trained to look out for and they offered frameworks that simplified my answers,I used a framework they shared to answer a Product sense question I was asked about how I’d improve Amazon for challenged people.
