Amazon focuses on behavioral interviewing (“Give me an example of a time when…”, “Tell me about a specific project when…”) in order to better understand the granular details of your experience.

Question 1
a) Tell me about a time you had to make a decision to make short-term sacrifices for long-term gains, and, b) Tell me about a time you had to make a decision without much customer data.

Interview
STAR system as per recruiter. Interview via video. Interviewer did not seem interested in being there at all from the moment the video came on based on body language (red flag?). Probably better off to go back to just a phone screen in this case. Did not get a follow up. However, later on found from the news that Amazon was laying off more than 10K and that they were posting ~3 times more openings there were actually approved positions. While initially confused why a hiring manager looked so uninterested in doing an interview, I can see now it was probably a sign of what was to come. Looking at the positive, did not have to spend time preparing for additional interview rounds for a position that may not have been approved at all.

Interview
Phone pre-screen with HR, followed by video interview with the hiring manager. Each in the 30 to 45 minute range. Hiring manager seemed like a nice person, but I'm rating his questions as "difficult" as they were nebulous. If you are ready for that, it wouldn't be difficult.

Question 1
Interviewer questions were like "tell me about a time you 'wowed' your last boss". There were zero questions pertaining directly to the job, or my experience as it would apply to the position. It seemed like fluff, with no solid practical questions.
