I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Amazon in Feb 2009
Interview
Amazon has a very methodical interview process. After the initial phone screen, they have an onsite where a couple of 1:1 interviews are done for the entire day. Every is very professional and respectful. Insightful questions and a genuine interest in trying to understand the skills and experience of the candidate.
The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2008
Interview
The process consisted of 3 phone interviews and an all day onsite interview with multiple employees. The onsite interviews were pretty standard with the exception of interviews with developers. There is an expectation that PM's are highly technical which is fair, but the developers were not particularly good interviewers with questions which tended to be rather obtuse. Even when setting up a complicated scenario, I have an expectation for clarity. Unfortunately, this makes it challenging for an interviewee to respond effectively.
