I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Los Angeles, CA) in May 2024
Interview
I was first contacted by the recruiter, and after providing availability, I was scheduled to interview with one of the team members. I'm rating the overall experience neutral because I did enjoy the interviews. But the recruitment culture is way worse compared to my experiences with other companies. I thought the interviews went reasonably well, but they chose not to move forward, which is alright. I'm still super happy that I was able to make those connections. But from the recruitment point of view, I don't think I could be outright treated like a commodity any more than that.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked about my research directions in my post grad studies.
Applied for Amazon AGI. After first round, it will go into full round of multiple interviews. Lots of modern LLM training technic questions. There are still some behavioral questions, but less than general Amazon roles.
Interviewed with 1 phone screen, 1 coding, 2 ml design and 2 lp rounds. Most questions were non-leetcode questions more related to day to day ml implementations. The questions were very practical.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Amazon (Tokio) in Apr 2026
Interview
The interview for the Applied Scientist position primarily focused on three core components: technical questions regarding machine learning, a live coding assessment, and a detailed review of my professional experience.
