A phone interview with the hiring manager. She was very pleasant. Typical stuff in the beginning. She asked me to recount my educational and professional background, and told me about the work the group does. Then she asked me a number of specialized questions about economic modeling. I had covered those topics in graduate school, but was a bit rusty on the details. She told me that most of my answers were reasonable, but she was looking for someone with more experience in that specific area who could hit the ground running and be a thought leader for the team. Fair enough. She encouraged me to explore other opportunities in her division at Amazon that would be a closer match to my expertise.
