I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Allstate in Feb 2011
Interview
Initially, I had a phone interview with an Allstate recruiter after I had applied online. She asked basic customer service questions and later e-mailed me an online skills test to take. After about 2 months, I was called and asked to interview in person.
The in person interview included a panel of 4 managers from various departments. However, the manager from the automotive department did most of the questioning. The questions were fairly basic and read from a packet that all the managers had and used to take notes.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Allstate in Oct 2010
Interview
Interview was very straight forward with questions regarding resume. After the on-campus interview, recruiter said a decision would be made in ~2 weeks. After two weeks past, with no word, I contacted the recruiter for an update and within a few hours received a letter from HR declining me. In general, the interviewers didn't have any answers for my questions, so I felt like more of a nuisance. Neither interviewer had a business card either.

In short, they will do almost anything to entice you to come on board. Be careful. They will take you around to talk to agencies, most will not be honest with you. They will take what you can give them, but few believe in the process and even fewer will comit themselves to setting apppointments for you.
