      User Experience Designer Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Agoda (Bangkok) in Jan 2017

      Interview

The interview process involved 3 phases. The first is a 1hr Skpe chat with one of their senior ux designers. During this conversation we chatted about Agoda and how design is involved in the process. The other part of the interview involved talking about my past projects. The focus was on the design process and deep diving into the problem I was trying to solve for each example. The second phase of the interview was another 1hr Skype chat with the design manager. I was initially told it would be similar to the first phase but it ended up being a casual chat about my personality, background, and culture fit. The third phase involved an in-person interview in their Bangkok head office. This was the most in-depth phase. The recruitment team helped with scheduling flights and accommodations based on preference. The in-person interview covered a span of two days, about five hours each. The first day involved a 1hr past project discussion with 4 members of their design team. At the end of it, questions were addressed regarding the projects. After the project discussion, I interviewed 1:1 with each individual designer. These individual 1hr interviews are focused around culture fit and personality, with each person coming with varying questions depending on what's important to them. The next day I continued the 1:1 meeting with the remaining designers, with the final one over lunch with the design manager. After finishing the 1:1 interviews I was presented with a design challenge. The challenge was to redesign an existing page based on a set of business requirements. I won't go into details here but the purpose was to see your design process and how you approach a problem. It's similar to a "whiteboard challenge", but different in that the team isn't present while you work through the problem. I was given about 3 hours to complete it, afterwards, I presented my approach and solution to the team.
