Our chief economist, Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, found in his latest Local Pay Report that on average, U.S. median base pay growth slowed to 2.7 percent year-over-year in December of 2016. However, this theme didn’t ring true for recruiters. Recruiters were amongst the top five job titles with the largest year-over-year pay growth in the U.S. with a 6.7 percent increase in base pay.
As companies ramp up their hiring in 2017, they need recruiters to hunt down the best that the labor market has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a recruiting position or you’re currently employed as a recruiter, here are three ways you can take advantage of the high demand for your job title.
-
Expand Your Skill Set:
To further prove your worth at your current company capitalize on opportunities for learning and development. For example, inquire how you can get involved with employer branding at your company. Not only will your insights as a recruiter on the front lines be highly valuable to the person that oversees employer branding at your company, but you can also gain ideas on how to best sell your future candidates. You could also look into attending a conference to learn how to be the best recruiter you can be. If you’re looking to stand out from other candidates searching for recruiting positions, take an online course or attend a webinar. You’ll be sure to pick up on a few nuggets of knowledge to drop into your next job interview.
-
Know Your Worth:
Because recruiters are in high demand, it’s critical that your accurately quantify your value. If you’re looking for a job, this will give you ground to stand on when it comes to the negotiation stage of your interview. If you’re looking to stay at your current company, this is a great time to ask for a promotion, but don’t initiate that conversation without getting your ducks in a row.
