Pros

Lots of hours during the holidays.

Cons

It takes YEARS to become a regular “full time” employee. Once a person becomes regular there is no insentive to actually work hard because the CCA’s with have to clean up whatever they didn’t finish. Always expected to come in at the drop of a hat. My postmaster recently made the comment “when you work for the post office you are married to this place”. No... no I’m not. Either way to many hours or way too few. Encouraged to not take a lunch break. Half of my office has to quit or retire for me to make regular.

Pros

Good Wage, Lots of overtime, Uniform allowance, Paid Milage when forced to work out of office.

Cons

No sick leave, no retirement, 3 days off a month if we are lucky. The Post Office is a train wreck. “Downtown” never lets us staff correctly, so everyone has to do 10 hours days, 6 days a week. It was fun for the first 4 years but I literally do nothing in life but eat, sleep, and work. We currently (2017) have a 69% turnover rate for CCAs.

Pros

Federal benefits when you make regular, time and a half for 40+ hours in a week OR 8+ hours in a day, steady work, 4 hours paid vacation per pay period, advancement opportunities, strong union. Good starting pay (16.06-17.41 an hour)

Cons

6 day work week including Sundays, impossible to actually use vacation time due to seniority, no health benefits until you make "regular" (2-3 years from start date on average), no set work schedule (work 8-6:30 one day and 10-8 the next.) Schedules are posted day of so it's impossible for you to plan your week ahead of time. If you work in the city you can be bounced around 3-4 different stations in a week which is increasingly difficult if you happen to not have a car. If you happen to finish an 8 hour route in less time you will be rewarded with more work upon returning to the station for no additional pay. Obsolete digital scanners that gps track your every movement or lack thereof .
