Pros

Stable company even in this economy. Excellent benefits and a fully funded pension plan on top of your 401k. Very strong culture that promotes from within.

Cons

The culture also fosters strong "Silo" mentality within the various departments in the company. The downside to the "promote from within" culture leads to proliferation of bad managers especially with the promotion is based upon longevity and technical skills instead of management skill. While the benefits in the past have been exception, they do not make up for the wide gap in base pay for what can be had at other employers. Additionally, the last 2 years there has been a tremendous transfer of health care costs to the employees along with a reduction in benefits..

Pros

UPS Supply Chain Solutions is good to work for if you're attending school full time. They are very flexible with working around your school schedule.

Cons

The company does not drug test their employees and basically hires anyone off the street that is able to read and write. You can be educated with several bachelor degrees or an MBA degree, they don't really care. If you're able to do the job, which really a no brainer, then they'll keep you in the same job. There is absolutely no upward mobility there. If you're good at what you do, they keep you in the same job position forever. If you're not so good at what you do, then they'll get rid of you. The pay is horrible there and the raises are pathetic. The highest raise you'll ever get maybe a .50 raise and that's it. The company also pays below the job market value among their employees. The place is mainly full of low life and old timers who are uneducated and unable to find work else where. The management there does not have any good people skills whatsoever. They're very unprofessional about communicating with their employees, which is why the employee morale is extremely poor there. Their Employee Opinion Survey gets worse ever year. They try to solve this problem by having focus group meetings with HR, but the Employee Opinion Survey still gets worse every year. Their Recognition program there only favors employees who they like. Overall, if you're a college graduate looking for a company to move up in, UPS Supply Chain Solutions is not one of them. Look else where.

Pros

You can miss as much work as you want (depending on who your manager is). This is good for the very sickly or the bogus people wanting days off with pay. If you are work committed this policy is not very attractive. You can claim to have vast knowledge and experience to HR in order to get hired. They do not test their applicants alledged skills or knowledge. They pay based on how well you interview and what you claim to know. Some people make $45K a year with no college (non management) while others make $28K a year with allot more responsibility and education.

Cons

Absoluately no cost of living raises. You will get .25 per hour as a yearly raise, if you are lucky. Sr managers have zero people skills yet they cant figure out why the employee opinion surveys are so low every year. Office is primarily full of old timers that cant find a job elsewhere and gossiping 24/7. Numerous pointless mandatory time wasting meetings. Neglent hiring practices and supervision. Pro or con depending on who you are.
