Pros

Good benefits if your single. Pension Plan

Cons

Working spouses do not get insurance. Your immediate manager will make or break your career. The beauracracy here is horrible- innovation is stifled because it creates a ton load of extra work. Lots of middle managers with no direction. The pay is sub par compared to other companies. No advancement

Pros

If you are a union employee you receive free benefits after a year (medical, dental, eye). The package car drivers (union) get payed decent money (50,000 up to over 90,000 a year or more depending on seniority.) Feeder truck drivers (union) get payed well. Every union employee gets a guaranteed raise every year. Part time union employees have no limit on pay rate. Feeders cap out at a certain pay rate. Mechanics (union) get payed well once they acquire seniority. Their pay also caps out after a number of years. Part-time supervisors get the benefit of having most of their college payed for. Union employees also receive compensation for school, but not all centers offer this for union employees. You can acquire your CDL through UPS, and if you go the supervisor career path (non union) you gain good experience. UPS looks good on your resume. You do not have to have a college degree to become a package car, or feeder driver. UPS is a good company to work for if you have patience and are willing to work.

Cons

Non union employees (supervisors, management) have to pay for their health benefits. UPS will try to get every ounce of work out of you that they can no matter what position you work. Especially out of part-time supervisors, package drivers, and part-time union employees working in the warehouse. If you go the package car driver route and you do not have a college degree many drivers start making money, and end up buying a house, a car, having kids exd. Then after a few years or more they end up hating their position, and become "trapped" at the company because they have bills, and no other experience to get another job without taking a pay cut. At the center I work at they have outdated equipment and won't fix broken equipment unless it is absolutely necessary. Because of the union everything is seniority based, so sometimes people who deserve the more skilled positions that pay more can get bumped from that job by someone who does not deserve the position but has more seniority. Some union employees will try to "play" the system, and use the union to get out of trouble. Once they get away with doing this a few times they think that they are invincible because the union will always protect them. As a result supervisors sometimes have trouble getting employees to follow instruction. Supervisors don't get payed enough money, and don't receive proper training. UPS does not offer full time employment for any entry level position. Starting pay rate for entry level positions is low. Upper management is greedy, and does not do whats best for the center.

Pros

There is opportunity to learn various levels of Technology solutions both for UPS and for your customers . Continous and on going training in the shpping field as well as products and services. Knowledge to be gained on the world wide International stage as the world changes; both import and export.

Cons

It seemed to me the lack of following their own UPS company polices,- covered in 2 handbooks.Particularly in business pratices; changing the rules to make the sale numbers , or get the promotion. An overall lack of integrity internally particularly in the area of ;a lack of Human Resource ,professionalism, inappropriate conduct and questions . People being promoted although it appeared they had numbers - cheated, then cover up by management to save their appearance. Toxic environment back biting, gossip ,coupled with ambiguity , mixed messages, lack of open honest communication although they purported the opposite as well as favoratism towards those who went along with the manipulations. To a certain extent a type of brain washing about UPS the brand and discrimnation if you did not go alongwith every thing they proposed not business related and being a UPSER, what was required. i.e. being forced, it felt like to donate when you either didn't beleive the cause of didn't have the extra money to give.
